About Us

The Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa CBHC and AIDS Relief Project began in 1996 as an exclusively community based home care program providing, initially, medical care to HIV positive people and other sick-poor individuals. Volunteer CHWs (community health workers) from Catholic parishes form the “backbone” of the project leading nurses to the homes of their sick neighbors. Beginning in 1 parish the project has gradually expanded to 10 parishes in Mombasa City. Funding from Maryknoll and Caritas Germany has sustained the community project from its inception.

Through Marquette University the project got in contact with the Pediatric AIDS Canada in mid.2004 which started giving us ARVS for children.

Until now more than 250 children are on ART and 35 adults under this scheme. Children needing ART continue to be admitted to this drug source while adult remain in CRS programme.

American Foundation for Children with AIDS have also supplied ARV's to children with their guardians since 2005 to 2008. They have also been supplting other donations like nutrition suppliments, hygiene kits, toys, clothes.......

In 2005 CRS under the auspices of USAID’s PEPFAR program rehabilitated an Archdiocese Health Clinic and began providing lifesaving ART (antiretroviral therapy) for PLWHA (people living with HIV/AIDS).

The Catholic Archdiocese has been serving many poor people for over fifty years now through health care services, nutrition programs, care of orphans and vulnerable children, offering shelter to the less fortunate, rehabilitation of street children and other many spiritual and charitable activities.  Today there are several programs and dispensaries which serve the sick-poor throughout the Catholic Archdiocese.
