1. CANADIAN

Through Marquette University the project got in contact with the Pediatric AIDS Canada in mid.2004 which started giving us ARVS for children.

We are happy that we are receiving long life drugs from pediatric AIDS Canada

Until now more than 250 children are on ART and 35 adults under this scheme. Children needing ART continue to be admitted to this drug source while adult remain in CRS programme. In July 2005 CRS expanded the ART programme having enrolled 2000+ clients while 1000+ are on ARVs. ART funded by Pediatric aids Canada, maryknoll fathers, caritas and CRS is an integral part of the project and has grown continuously and substantially over the past years.

2. AMERICAN FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN WITH AIDS

With the help of American Foundation for Children with Aids in Kenya has helped us a lot achieve our objectives which include assisting the community to promote good health and prevent ill health among others. They have also supplied ARV's to children with their guardians since 2005 to 2008. Nutrition being the main challenge AFCA has provided nutrition supplements like milk, cooking oil and porridge flour (ATMIT) referred to as Jesus Christ by the kids which have greatly improved the health of kids  living with HIV/AIDs. They also have been supplying hygienic kits, blankets, clothes, shoes, children toys to our clients and a place to store this things on delivery before distribution inform of containers. Apart from offering material things they have been conducting visits to the children homes, attending kids day for fun making.
All this have helped us meet the basic needs and social needs of our kids. Currently the AFCA is catering for approximately 250 kids grouped as kids, teens and youth.

Sponsor home visit

Permit me on behalf of the   CBHC staff, CHWs and clients especially the children to congratulate you upon the support you have been rendering in terms of drugs, laboratory equipment and insurance for the truck. We sincerely thank your organization for being pioneers of this project thus opening the door for other organizations
The management and the staff of Mombassa CBHC, greatly feel obliged to express our deepest appreciation for your overwhelming support. We have witnessed your effort to move the clinic from good to great through your immeasurable goodwill we have made immense growth.

We are very appreciative of the good spirit your organization has so far given us for 4 years which has brought remarkable improvement to the health of our children. The drugs have made a significant impact on the life of our children because none of them miss school as a result of ill health. This has given the children a reason to smile and continue with life just like other children. Some children need to be supported through secondary education or vocational training but because their parents /guardians are not able then this remains a dream.

We are grateful to all our supporters, without whom much of the above simply would not have been possible. Thank you for all your support since 2004 to date. The fight remains tough since HIV is still a threat and for this reason we still   need your continued support.
It is encouraging that Archbishop Boniface Lele   and the priests have given us full support by meeting PLWHA oftenly.

3. MARYKNOLL

The project was started by Maryknoll Brother John Mullen. He has been privileged to serve as a Maryknoll Brother in Kenya since 1990. A Registered Nurse by training, his work now is to help Kenyans respond to the crisis of the AIDS epidemic which is ravaging our country. Small Christian Communities (SCCs) are the backbone of parishes in Kenya. Utilizing this existing Church structure the Project (the Archdiocese of Mombasa Community Based Health Care and AIDS Relief Project trains volunteers from each SCC to visit the sick in their respective areas. The HIV prevalence rate being greater than 10%, invariably many people sick and dying from AIDS are found.we are also receiving food from Maryknoll fathers for the desperate cases. Thanks to you that you have helped us fight the challenge of nutrition.

We nolonger go without food for a night because of your food donations

4. CRS

In 2005 CRS under the auspices of USAID’s PEPFAR program rehabilitated an Archdiocese Health Clinic and began providing lifesaving ART (antiretroviral therapy) for PLWHA (people living with HIV/AIDS). They have enabled us extend our services to other 9 parishes apart from Mikindani, paying salaries for staff, supplying drugs for OI and ARVs and renovated our offices to cater for many.

You have seen us achieve many things that we could have not on our own. our support group have moved from good to great. your technical assistance in all field is helping us improve and continuous professional development.

DONATIONS

We sustain our projects through donations. If you hear the word "Jesus Christ has just arrived" you don't have to carry your legs running for the bible. it means the awaited container delivering the donations has just arrived in the port from Canada. The American Foundation for Children with Aids has just sent us other donations to sustain our clients.

Jesus Christ is porridge flour called ATMIT packaged in cement like bags. It was nicknamed so because it is hope to our people . For those who have ever used it, it is self cantained, it has sugar, milk and good taste. i talked to the beneficiaries just to find out that it was not only loved for its taste and the good porridge it make but because its use to make pan cakes and Chapati for a meal. No client can complain when Jesus Christ is there in the project. Last year on October 2008 we received a container with donations which included:-

  1. Wheel chair
  2. Clothes
  3. Shoes
  4. Toys
  5. Blankets
  6. hygiene kits
  7. milk
  8. cooking oil
  9. Atmit
  10. New born kits
  11. School kits
  12. Container

All this have improved the life of our people in many ways. The cases of malnutrition which is a challenge to us was catered for by the nutrition supplements like  milk, cooking oil  and Atmit (Referred by the name “Jesus Christ” because of the hope it gives to our people).

We have been able to capture many of the PMTCT mothers for counseling and provision of newborn kits for them to save the children from dying due to pneumonia.

Considering that Mombasa is very cold now, our people no longer suffer from cold due to the warm clothes you sent, blankets, shoes.

In the clinic we no longer worry of a client who is in critical condition and can’t walk because the wheel chair is serving the purpose of moving them all over the clinic.

Dental problems is no longer an issue in our kids and adults because of the hygiene kit pack. Kids support group has not been excluded in changing the kids life in playing roles using the toys, physical exercise in the field by use of the balls, rope not forgetting the Drawing session where drawing tools are available now.

The container has served us as the store for us. You saved us the expenses of constructing a store.

September 2009 we have received another container from the same donor with such donations. The container was long awaited not because it had delayed but because we had run out of stock of Jesus Christ. Refering to 12 years back the line such flour was being distributed in rural areas only to children below 5 years. In schools teachers had problems because pupils carried it to school for consumption without having to cook it. Thanks to the donors for helping the project serve the community better.
