Events/Activities

To ensure that everybody is part and parcel of the project we hold events to bring all people together for sharing and encouragement.

1. PREVENTION INTERVENTIONS

• We are holding prevention awareness campaigns in churches, slums, community schools and colleges.  Community awareness campaigns done quarterly in the 9 stations.

• PMTCT support groups: members are enlightened on ways of prevention in order to have negative babies. 
•  Formation of support groups where preventive measures are discussed.
• Community nurses and counselors are able to trace other family members through family tracing forms we have developed. Through this we are able to get those affected and also reach others on prevention measures.

• People Living With Hiv/Aids voluntarily telling their status publicly
• Priests in our coverage area encouraging people to know their status.
• Meeting people in public gathering areas to discuss HIV/AIDS

CHALLENGES IN ROLLING OUT PREVENTION INTERVENTIONS

• Misconception about HIV/AIDS making prevention campaigns difficult.
• Illiteracy/ignorance giving hindrance to level of understanding
• Poverty levels which has led to irresponsible sexual behavior
• Substance abuse e.g. alcohol, marijuana and sharing injections which makes users more predisposed to HIV/AIDS.
• Myths and misconception
• Lack of disclosure from sexual partners making HIV prevention difficult.
• Self stigma
• Faith healing and cultural beliefs.
• Revenge feelings in that one want to spread because he/she also got it

Once in a year, children family day is organized for the purpose of gathering the children together with their guardians.

The main aim is fun making. Children are involved in activities like:-

1. Jumping rope
2. Mr. Berry shows
3. Tag of war
4. Rat killing.

All staffs are involved and incase of any gift to be issued they issue to the children.
Children are taught on challenges of role play and also given the chance to give the vote of thanks.

A fantastic and enjoyable lunch is served for all present.

YEAR 2009

YOUTH DAYS HELD ON 29TH AUGUST 2009

It feels so good to be a youth but most are the challenges and difficulties associated with you. this day was held to let our youth know the challenges they expect to meet in life and how to cope with them. I wish you were there to see the staff compete with the youth in dancing

we called it the mothers union versus the yoh!yoh!. if it was a matter of extra like drum beats that must have been the staff bornes rattling because of oldage and the strugle to make the waist swing but for the dot com it was just a matter of letting the body do the dancing.

The youths got education relating to sexuality like why youth engage in sex. for every doing there is a reason behind it nobody does things blindly. Would you like to know the reason why youth engage in sex. Here are some of the reasons outlined.

• It shows you are a real man or woman
• Everybody’s doing it and it feels so good.
• I was afraid of what my friends would say if I did not do it
• My partner pressured me to and I did not know how to say no
• I have been raped and abused, so what is left to keep
• If you love someone, you will have sex with them and I loved her.
• He is the man and in our culture, a man gets what he wants.
• I was a little drunk and very horny  and it just happened
• She said “no” but I know she really meant yes.
• It makes me feel special and loved
• Movies and music make sex seem so cool. I was curious about what its like
• We are soul mates for life so why should we wait?
• He said he would leave me if I did not and he promised to pay me after sex
  • If I get pregnant, I can just have an abortion anyway. There are family planning pills and condoms so we will protect our self
• If I get HIV I can just get healed through sleeping with a virgin or through a prayer or some cure
• I am worthless and have no future anyway so what do I have to lose?
• My family is poor and he/she gives me money so why don’t I appreciate with my body for more
For every problem has a solution the youths outlined the ways out to avoid all this. the ways out were as follows:-

• Realize it will be tough. Hormones and movies will tempt and friends will pressure you but remember to keep your values because once you do it you will realize you are the only one.
• Choose friends of similar values to support you. Do not hang up with bad company
• Stay single until you are ready for marriage. Dream, set goals, work towards them and never give up.
• If someone pressures you sexually say “you don’t have respect for my values and body, call it a quit.
• If your friends pressure you say, “in a second I can become like you (non virgin) but you can never become like me (virgin)
• Avoid spending time filling your mind with sex. Cut out on sexually charged movies, music, books, places.
• Avoid alcohol and drugs. Only decision can save your life
• Go to church and get into God and his word.
• If you fall stand up again and don’t give up
• Speak to someone you trust and respect that supports your sexual values, about any challenge in life.
• Write a letter to your future partner promising to stay pure. Read it often as a reminder.
• If you had sex before, get HIV test to live longer and avoid hurting others.
• If you have been abused or raped, know that virginity can’t be taken from you. You are still virgin until you choose to give up.
• Push through loneliness, temptation and tough times by remembering that God is with you and he says that you are beautiful, special and unique and he has good pans for you. Jeremiah 29:11
• Turn over a new page and journey into finding faith, getting growing, loving life and choosing change.

Its is good and elaborative if i give a story to explain how the day was. free and open a spade was a spade not a big spoon. There lived a mother who wanted her daughter to be disciplined and the best girl in the whole village. she taught her daughter to call things not by their real name but by other names so she told her that her private part were called respect. the girl grew up knowing that it was bad to show respect to anybody. so one day the parent had visitors and the girl could not give them a seat she occupied and out of anger the mother told the girl "cant you show respect to the visitors" and there the girl was, she stood up, lifted her dress, pulled off the panties and there was respect for the visitors to see. the mother was too shocked for words so the father asked the girl what do you thing you are doing? the girl answered am showing them respect, my mum said this is respect.

 

Did you ever think of those who live in a single room with their children? do a research and you will find that their children knows everything about sex. Why? because when their parent go to bed the children happen to wake up because of what they hear. Once two boys lived together with their family in a single room. the old one kept awake to watch what the mother and father did at night. one day he couldn't watch alone so they organised with the other boy to wake him up to see. when the old boy parted the other to wake up the boy woke up and pretended to be a sleep so the older boy was irritated and slapped him to wake up, out off anger the younger one shouted "stop it i have been watching ". the parent were very embarased and couldn't hide their shame. Poverty , they couldn't have afforded a big room.

 

An eighteen-year-old Njeri tells her Mom that she has missed her period for two months. Very worried, the mother goes to the drugstore and buys a pregnancy kit.
The test result shows that the girl is pregnant.
Shouting, cursing, crying, the mother says, "Who was the pig that did this to you I want to know!
The girl picks up the phone and makes a call. Half an hour later a Ferrari stops in front of their house; a mature and distinguished man with grey hair and impeccably dressed in a very expensive suit steps out of it and enters the house. He sits in the living room; with the father, the mother and Njeri, and tells them: "Good morning, your daughter has informed me of the problem. However, I can't marry her because of my personal family situation, but I'll take charge.
If a girl is born I will bequeath her 2 retail stores, a townhouse, a beach villa and a $1,000,000 bank account.
If a boy is born, my legacy will be a couple of factories and a $2,000,000 bank account.
If it is twins, a factory and $1,000,000 each. However, if there is a miscarriage, what do you suggest I do"

At this point, the father, who had remained silent, places a hand firmly on the man's shoulder and tells him, "You'll sleep with her again".

Want for money. even the parents are contributing to youths behaviours

 

 

Have you ever thought why your child, wife or husband is a poor defaulter in taking his/ her medicine. Always the doctor statement after review is "You did not take your drugs as instructed". Here are the reasons, get to know them

 

1. Ignorance
2. Stress
3. Playing a lot
4. Misunderstanding
5. Forgetfulness
6. Lack of disclosure
7. So many drugs
8. Discouragement and unfavorable environment
9. Throwing away the pills and hiding
10. Lack of reminders
11. Bitterness, bad smell and big size of the drugs



 

Apart from the discussion and sharing there was lunch for the participants. it was too delicious thus not enough for its taste. I myself thought some staff didn't eat in public but to my suprise. I even took some pictures to make sure it was not a dream but reality. Have a look at what i saw myself. Thanks to our staff who cope with the occassion, when its youth they fit, kids you will be supprised to see them jump with rope and playing hide and seek.

 



Apart from being staff they are youth too
