9. Care of Orphans in collaboration with APHIA II Project and Maryknoll Fathers Aids Orphans Project.

10. Prevention Programs: the project assists with personnel in the Catholic Archdiocesan "Youth Alive" , "Education for Life", and "Adventures Unlimited" Programs for adolescent and prepubescent youths.

11. Support Groups for People Living With HIV/AIDS.

 

12. IGA (Income Generating Activity) assistance for PLWHA.

 

 

13. Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) for qualified clients.

 

 

 

TREATMENT PREPARATION SEMINARS (T.P.S)

 

This is education on Antiretroviral Therapy to patients who are eligible to start HAART( highly active antiretroviral therapy). It is also a continuation/evaluation of continuous education and counseling which start from the day of enrollment to the time of eligiblility for ART.

 

Qualification for TPS

 

  • Tested and HIV positive.
  • Immunological: WHO I & II, CD4 cell count <250 c/mm3
  • WHO III CD4 cell count <350 cells/mm3 and WHO IV, any CD4 cell count.
  • Has attended more than 3 visits to clinic without missing an appointment.
  • Has good adherence to septrin and Multivitamins.
  • May have joined a support group.
  • Should have a treatment buddy especially family member and has disclosed her/his status to the buddy.

 

How is it conducted?

 

  • Use of written handouts or power point while patients are seated with their treatment buddy at the clinic hall.
  • Some patients give testimonies (One patient on HAART for more than 6 months is called to talk to new patient).
  • All patients introduce themselves, their names, status and CD4 cell counts.
  • There is room for question and answers.
  • Patients are also shown the drugs.
  • Several topics are covered e.g.
  • HIV immunology
  • Prevention
  • Reinfection/condom use/ church stand.
  • Adherence to treatment, time, missing etc.
  • O.I.S.
  • Herbal drugs and ART.
  • Alcohol and ART.
  • Faith healing.
  • Use of septrin and multivitamin.
  • Nutrition in relation to HIV/AIDs.
